Microlight Flying Courses

The following pages deal with the nitty gritty of obtaining a UK National Private Pilots Licence (rated for Microlights).

PPL Introduction

So, you've had your trial lesson ..... Well, you either loved it or hated it! We sincerely hope you loved it - most people do and want to take it further to obtain a Private Pilot's Licence, and if you are one of those, you'll be wondering how much it costs and how you go about it and no doubt you have many more questions to ask.

It's really very difficult to explain everything in writing - you really need to talk this over with an expert like the instructor who took you flying in the first place. But within these pages you'll find many of the answers you're looking for. The information will give you an in depth look at the nitty gritty involved in becoming a fully qualified pilot with licence to prove it and if you're looking for an exciting new angle to your life then you've come to the right place.

So read on to see how you can get your Private Pilot's Licence and take part in a sport that has no age, race, or class barriers, but will lead you into a new exciting adventure which will surpass your wildest dreams.

This is one of our instructors and a student doing the pre-flight checks in readiness for take-off. It's summer time and it's a hot day so the doors are off and we're flying in shorts and shirt sleeves. It's a wonderful sensation coasting along at 2000ft with that cool breeze blowing through your hair ........... Pure magic.

  • THE SKY DOESN'T COST THE EARTH!
Usually the first thing that most people want to know though is how much it will cost. The nitty gritty details of this are somewhat complex but to put things into the proverbial nutshell, using a finance package, we can generally arrange things so that it works out to only about £26 per week for the WHOLE of the training ..... AND a share in an aeroplane !

    · The training costs from around £2500 and an aircraft share is also £1,777 for the AX3 or £2,332 for the T600N - with a buy-back clause should you ever want to become independent. That's a fully equipped and professionally maintained aeroplane for which you pay running-costs only - £31 per hour for the AX3 and £33 per hour for the T600N.

  • WE'RE THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS!
We are all dedicated flying enthusiasts at Airbourne, and we believe in providing the most professional service available. This doesn't come cheap, but neither does your life and the livelihood of your family. We have a reputation based on 20 plus years in the business. We know exactly what we're at and we know exactly how to teach you to a safe standard that will enable you to fly anywhere, in complete safety and with complete confidence. This is because we're the best in the business.

  • THE TRAINING
Obtaining a Private Pilot's Licence requires everyone to complete a very comprehensive and detailed course, but it's tailored to suit your time requirements. With 25 to 30 hours of flying to do in total, most of our students book one or two lessons a week and finish the course over a period of about six months ..... this way it doesn't completely take over the whole of your life!

Having said that, we do cater for those who have busy schedules and need to complete the course quickly so if you have the stamina then we are well able to complete the requirements on an intensive course within about 4 weeks given some reasonable weather.

With detailed ground briefings and expert tuition, it usually takes us about 15 to 18 hours to get the average student to solo stage and from then on it's plain sailing through to obtaining the licence.

Just so that students have the chance to make up their minds if they really do want to complete the course, we always start everyone off with our 12-hour Introductory Course. Then there's no great pressure in feeling that just because you've started, you've got to finish. This really is an excellent way to be introduced to learning to fly.

And by the way, if you're reading this in the autumn, don't assume that it would be better to leave it until springtime. We operate 363 days of the year (guess which two days we have off!) and we have some wonderful flying during the winter months. You won't be cold because we have special clothes and anyway, what could be a more wonderful experience than floating above a carpet of glistening snow on a sharp frosty sunny day?

  • JUST DO IT!
Come and have a go. Nowhere will you find a sport that offers so many different horizons and so many different challenges. You'll never tire of flying and it will bring you and your family or the friends you share it with, many long hours of cherished memories.
