Ground School
Flying aeroplanes is tremendous fun, but with it comes new responsibilities. In
addition to learning to fly the aircraft, you must learn a whole new set of subjects - Aviation
Law; Theory of Flight; Navigation; Meteorology; Human Performance & Limitations and important
details specific to your own particular design of aircraft. To cap it all you will have to pass
written tests in these subjects!
This all sounds a bit daunting
doesn't it? But though these subjects may sound dull difficult and boring, they aren't. You really
will find them very interesting and enjoy every minute learning about them. Taking advantage
of our combined interactive computer lectures and video films, you'll not only enjoy learning
them but will sail through the tests easily.
All the lectures and training films are on interactive computer and video for your private study
in between flying lessons, and these are backed up by personal tuition with an instructor if
need be.
The picture above is Brian studying the mock exam questions on our interactive Air-Law presentation
on the computer just prior to taking his Air Law exam.
And right is Steve. He's just
finished a video session on navigation and is boning up ready for a dual cross country flight
with his instructor. Steve and his friend Andy are aircraft engineers; they look after the big
stuff at Heathrow. In their spare time they built a Kolb Twinstar and then trained with us to
get their licences in 1996.
However good or bad you were at school we guarantee that you will pass the tests. They are,
after all, only there to ensure that you know the highway code of the sky, can find your way
around OK and don't get into difficulties you can't cope with. The tests are what are called "multiple
choice" There is no writing to do because each question has three answers below it and you
simply have to choose the correct one. Even if you failed at the first attempt you can have a
second or even third attempt. To be honest though, hardly anyone ever has to go for the third
attempt and everyone passes in the end so you should have no worries on this score at all.
