Assistant Flying Instructor Course

Becoming one of the Gods.....

So, What is involved?
It is mandatory that each AFI course should consist of a minimum of 40 hours ground school and 15 hours of flight training. In addition each student has to give a number of practise lectures on the subjects in the syllabus, together with several practise pre-flight briefings and post-flight briefings. Within this specified time, the content of the syllabus has to be absorbed, and it can take longer than the specified minima. The groundschool usually takes about 75 hours but this is all included in the basic course price. But if the flying time has to be extended, this will be charged at the rate of £72 per flying hour.

A considerable amount of pre-prepared notes, visual aids, and pre-flight briefings will be provided during the course for you to keep to provide you with all your basic requirements, so that having secured a job, you will be able to start immediately teaching groundschool and flying subjects in a thoroughly professional manner.

All training is at an active airfield amongst other light aircraft activities, and for this reason you'll gain the knowledge, ability, and confidence to teach with pride at any airfield in the UK.

We are a well established professional training school with much experience, and you can see from this information package that the training is extremely involved and thorough. and that is why it costs a fair amount of money. However, you are assured that at the end of your training you'll be well equipped to commence your new trade armed with the knowledge and ability of a true professional and the confidence to go with it. So you will get very good value for your money.

How long is all this going to take?
Because a high degree of continuity is desirable in this type of course, it is recommended that it be done over a period of three consecutive working weeks -Tuesday through Friday. This way the flying can be fitted in when our fickle weather permits. That timescale is sufficient to complete the whole syllabus in, in a practical manner. Please note that the school is closed Mondays, and weekends are too busy. Of course, due to your particular circumstances, it may not be possible for you to attend for three consecutive weeks, and if this is the case, then we may be able to arrange things to suit your circumstances. It should be remembered however that all training must take place within a six month period prior to application for your AFI rating.
